Wood: 3/4" thick hardwoods with a lot of contrast since this project requires 5 different shades (white, light, medium, medium dark, and dark). Rather than using different species of wood for the contrast, you may use just one species of wood and stain the wood different shades.

1/4" thick X 12" X 20" piece of plywood for the backboard
