A show piece Nativity

Jan 9, 2014  |  Posted By Marty Krauss from Regina, SK Canada

This was my first attempt in using a pattern to produce a stand alone figurine. I wanted to do something special for Christmas this year for the front yard. I was not disappointed. Thanks to the well put together pattern and instructions including the material list and paint selection I received great reviews from all passer bys, freinds and neighbours. I have a couple of tips for this project I would like to share. Cutting out the pattern, try to cut a smooth line over the high spots and take out the indents after. The star is difficult to cut out and leave a smooth edge around it. I cut the star out from the inside of the large sheet and used a scrap piece to cut another star. This gives you a real nice even look around the star. Rather than drill a hole to get the jig saw started, try working the blade in along a line by tilting the saw forward and gradually let the blade touch the wood and slowly work it through the board. Try it on some scrap pieces first, just to get the hang of it. You will be happy with the result. You might need a little more than a weekend to get it cut out and painted. I also built a box for the back lighting to direct and hide the light. Last but not least, it would be nice if Winfield could put a further package for the paint supplies that you need, this would be very handy. I have already started planning for my next project through Winfield since I am very happy with the products they offer. Good luck with yours and I hope I have been helpfull with this review. Marty

Beautiful

Everyone who sees it loves it, especially the night time view. Since we live in the country I wanted to put on the end of the house but it did not show good to the road. The only thing I'd like differently would be a larger one with lights behind for putting on a house.

We have gotten the most compliments on this nativity, everyone loves it, but especially the night time view. I like that it looks great day or night. I would love to have a larger one to put on the end of our two story guest house. This one just isn't big enough to be seen for that.

Our most treasured Christmas decoration!

My husband and I built this several years ago and are still using it! People stop in their cars at night to look at it! It's beautiful and very heavy and will last for many years.
